What does quality in translation mean?
- For your clients, your company's image depends, among other things, on the quality of the documents
they receive. A poorly translated document sends false information about you and
will undermine your relationship with your clients.
- For your business, absolute confidence that your documents are well translated is a must.
It is your responsibility to guarantee that your clients and employees always
have accurate and up-to-date information.
What is quality in translation's worst enemy?
A translation process that depends on a single person. No one is perfect and errors
will always slip through.
That's why a translation team capable of implementing a Formula for Quality
is necessary-rather than just a single translator.
Why is a Formula for Translation necessary?
Translation is a labor-intensive, complex process that can be very subjective. It
is a process in which it is easy to make mistakes, misinterpret concepts and use
inappropriate styles, making it necessary to have several persons involved.
What does Orchestra's Formula for Quality consist of?
Our formula for quality has three phases:
- Customized Translation. A team of translators translates the documents following a style guide
and common glossaries, if these exist. The first revision and proofreading of
the texts is also carried out in this phase.
- Rigorous Editing. Translated
documents are revised a second time by an editor, who, by making sure the translation
has been done correctly and according to the client's style guides and customized
glossary, ensures overall quality. Formatting is also checked in this phase to
make sure the original format has been maintained.
- Continual Improvement. We always seek the client's feedback to gauge their level of
satisfaction, to better understand their preferences and incorporate any necessary
changes to the style guide and glossary for use with future translations.
The entire process is carried out under a project manager's strict supervision, which guarantees the end result.
What is an editor?
An editor is both a translation professional and an expert in the document’s
subject matter, i.e., a lawyer will edit legal documents, an economist, financial
documents, different types of engineers will edit different technical documents
or a doctor, medical texts.
When we receive your document, an editor
analyzes it to establish the most appropriate terminology and style to use when
translating it. When the translation and proofreading phase is complete, the document
is given to the editor for his/her final OK. The editor also ensures that the document
does not sound "translated", but rather like it was originally written
in the target language.
What is a style guide?
A style guide is a set of instructions, specifications and glossaries created by
a company on how to write or translate its documents. Orchestra has developed its
own style guides as well, which are available to all clients.
Is one document translated in the same
way for different clients?
No, and the more technical or specialized the document, the more the result will
differ. Occasionally, translations for different countries that speak the same language
may also differ.
Orchestra's project manager is responsible
for deciding with the client on the appropriate style guide in order to produce
a translation that is objectively correct and suited to the client's preferences.

Does Orchestra use machine translations?
Not right now. Automatic translation systems can only be used to obtain a very broad
understanding of a text, and their use is currently very limited because the results
fall below the minimum level of acceptable quality. However, we do use TRANSLATION
MEMORY SYSTEMS, which search for similar patterns within different parts of a document
and help to guarantee consistency in the translation.
