To get a word
count for paper documents, we recommend using 1 of the
3 methods below:
1). Send
us the document by mail or fax. We will do a word count for you
and create an Exact Quote using that number.
2).
Count the words in certain sections of the document, then make
an educated guess as to the total number.
3).Count
the words on several pages and take the average on each page.
Then multiply the average by the number of pages.
For electronic
documents, just click on the program or format you are using and
follow the instructions:
Microsoft WORD and POWERPOINT (files with
extentions *.doc, *.ppt, *.rtf, OR *.txt)
1.- Open your
document.
2.- Go to 'File' and choose 'Properties'.
3.- Click the tab called 'Statistics'.
A window will
appear with the number of words, paragraphs, lines, pages, etc.,
your document contains.
A few tricks
when using Word:
Cut (CTRL+X):
highlight the text, press CTRL and hit X.
Select
(CTRL+E): press CTRL and hit E.
Copy
(CTRL+C): highlight the text, press CTRL and hit C.
Paste
(CTRL+V), highlight the text, press CTRL and hit V.
Also: To
select text, use CTRL+E instead of highlighting and scrolling
down the page. To cut text, use CRTL+X (convenient when moving
entire paragraphs). To copy text, use CTRL+C and then CTRL+V to
paste the copied (or cut) text.
Microsoft
EXCEL (files with extension*.xls)
For Excel
files, you must copy the text to an MS-Word file to do a word
count. Here's how:
1.- Open your
document.
2.- Use CTRL+E to select the entire text.
3.- Go to the 'Edit' menu and choose 'Copy'.
4.- Open a new document in Word. From the 'Edit' menu choose 'Paste'.
5.- Go to 'File', and choose 'Properties'.
6.- Click the tab called 'Statistics'.
A window will
appear which lists the properties of your document: number of
words, paragraphs, lines, pages, etc.
Microsoft
ACCESS (files with extensions *.mdb, OR *.dbf)
1.- Open your
document.
2.- Go to 'Tools'. Choose 'Links with MS-Word', and then choose
'Publish with MS Word'.
3.- Open WORD. The same table will appear, but in *.rtf
format (i.e., as a Word document).
2.- From the 'File' menu, choose 'Properties'.
3.- Click the tab called Statistics.
A window will
appear with the number of words, paragraphs, lines, pages, etc.,
your document contains.
QuarkXPRESS
(Files with extension *.qxd)
1.- Open your
document.
2.- From the 'Utilities' menu, choose 'Spell Check'
and then choose 'Document'.
A window will
appear with the number of words and characters in your document.

Adobe
ACROBAT (Files with extension *.pdf)
For Adobe
ACROBAT and ACROBAT Reader files, you must copy the text to an
MS-Word file to do a word count. Here's how:
1.- Open your
document in Adobe Acrobat.
2.- Use CTRL+E to select the entire text.
3.- From the 'Edit' menu, select 'Copy'.
4.- Open a new document in Word. From the 'Edit' menu choose 'Paste'.
5.- Go to 'File', and choose 'Properties'.
6.- Click the tab called 'Statistics'.
A window will
appear with the number of words, paragraphs, lines, pages, etc.,
your document contains.
